Upcoming ECR 2021

The European Congress of Radiology (ECR) 2021 will be held as an online congress on March 3-7, 2021. It will provide the biggest online programme in radiology ever, featuring state-of-the-art science, education and research presented by medical imaging professionals from across the world. The programme includes live and on-demand sessions.

EIBIR (MEDIRAD Project Coordinator) and EURAMED are jointly organising a session, which will feature updates from Horizon 2020 projects dedicated to radiation protection research. Among others, a talk by Prof. Guy Frija (MEDIRAD Clinical Coordinator) wil present ongoing activities and first results of the project.

The session will take place on Wednesday, March 3, at 14:15-15:15.

These are the session details:

C 13 - Joint EIBIR-EURAMED session on European radiation protection research (moderated by Christoph Hoeschen; DE)

  • Talk from the MEDIRAD project: understanding and evaluating the health effects of low-dose ionising radiation exposure from diagnostic and therapeutic imaging (Guy Frija; FR)
  • Talk from the SINFONIA project: developing comprehensive risk appraisal for the detrimental effects of radiation exposure on patients and healthcare professionals (during the management of lymphoma or brain tumour patients) (John Damilakis; GR)
  • Talk from the EURAMED rocc-n-roll project: developing a strategic research agenda for medical applications of ionising radiation and related radiation protection (Christoph Hoeschen; DE)
  • Live Q&A

In addition, the project will be presented in two on-demand sessions, which are as follows:

Session: RPS 516 - CT in oncology

  • Talk: Dosimetry and biokinetic modelling of thyroid cancer patients treated with radioiodine as part of an international multi-centre study within MEDIRAD (Jan Taprogge; UK)

Session: RPS 200 - Professional issues: radioprotection

  • Talk: European Diagnostic Reference Levels for Computed Tomography applications in nuclear medicine: results from the MEDIRAD project (Gwenny Verfaillie; BE)

Moreover, two MEDIRAD posters will be presented in the EuroSafe Imaging poster exhibition, one providing a general project update (by the Coordination Team), and the other one focusing on "The current use of multi-modality imaging in nuclear medicine in Europe: results from the MEDIRAD project" (by Gwenny Verfaillie).
